Marcus Armes
Business Development and Government Liaison Officer with the Low Carbon Innovation Centre at the University of East Anglia
(The low Carbon Innovation Centre is home to the CRed and Carbon Connection Programmes and is based at the UEA)
My areas of responsibility cover business development and liaison with politicians at all levels of government. I write and oversee the delivery of submissions to government and Parliamentary select committee consultations on carbon reduction issues. My job also entails raising awareness of carbon reduction solutions with local government, and has led to my spearheading the supply of the CRed on-line system to various UK local authorities. During my six years with the CRed (Carbon Reduction) Programme I have generated business with companies large and small.
Prior to joining CRed and Carbon Connections I worked as a political consultant for the oil and gas industry, this role followed a two year career as a parliamentary researcher at Westminster. Given my political background, and extensive experience of working with politicians at all levels, I have sought to use my political contacts and knowledge of the workings of Westminster to ensure that CRed and Carbon Connections are able to influence a broad spectrum of policy makers.
Before my time in the House of Commons, I worked at the sharp end of environmental chemistry as a Teaching Technician in the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia, and this gave me a good background in environmental science, specifically in the area of the role of carbon in climate change.
Until recently I also acted as an advisor to offshore companies AMEC and BP on aspects of decommissioning offshore platforms.
